The Penygroes Service Centre located in South Wales was founded in 2014 by Jonathan. He has extensive 17 years of experience in the industry. However, Jon found himself doing a lot of manual labour for data management to keep a finger on the pulse of the business. Therefore, joined Garage Hive's garage management software in March 2021 and has already seen a significant improvement in his garage, an increase in gross profit and has achieved a great NPS® Score.
Richard joined the Garage Hive back in September 2021. He is the owner of RM Motors based in Batley. Since joining us here at Garage Hive, Rich and his team have been on the journey of adapting a new garage management software from the start to where they are now. We wanted to catch up with Richard to get his perspective on the journey he’s been on so we can share this with others.

Tim Benson's family business – Oldfields Garage - was established by his parents over 30 years ago in Leominster. Before taking over the business, Tim worked with the main dealer parts department and has been in the industry for 15 years.
Cedar Garage is an independent car garage that was established in 1982 in Worthing. Both Kevin Pearce and Matthew Copp took over the business in April 2013. Before that, Kev and Matt had a small car garage called Car Doctors which they opened in 2011.
Garden City Garage joined Garage Hive in October 2019. This family-run business was established back in the 1960s and is located in Neath, South Wales; it was taken over by Gareth and his wife Rael in 2002 when it came up for sale.
Fitch Autos has been in the business for almost 45 years has expanded with a new unit, more staff and increased its turnover by 25% within the past two years.
Autocentre Chorley is a well-established MOT, car service, car repair and tyre garage in Chorley. They have highly skilled and qualified technicians who hold over 60 years of combined experience.
It is over two and a half years since we moved our garage management system, and so much has changed during that time, both in our business and personal lives. And although the journey has occasionally been painful, and often tedious, where we are now is certainly a better place. Firstly, I want to say, I didn’t move systems because I hated the old ones. I moved because I wanted something different as a business, and I was looking for something better for me. The direction I wanted to take the business in required a slightly different emphasis, and as such I planned to step back from the day to day running of the business but remain in control. Therefore, I wanted to be able to see daily activities from anywhere in the world (and those of you reading this who know me personally, will of course know that that is mostly from my house!) and to be able to usefully work and see daily profit/figures. One of the most impressive things about Garage Hive is the active and very warm Facebook and general community – full of folks that care passionately about their business, and many of whom who have taken the conscious decision to be a businessowner first and a technician or service advisor a very definite second. This, of course, is a necessity to conquer the financial success which alludes many garage owners. This community, you might think, is nothing to do with GH, but the positive manner in which it is used and enjoyed is very much a reflection of the culture within GH. This dynamic Facebook group will often highlight another garage owner’s favourite report and what they are trying to achieve and BOOM! – off we go again into that unnurtured area; - result = making it better than ever before. Occasionally, the group pushes for something, much like a modern-day digital trade union. GH listens: I like this very much; it is powerful and respectfully achieved. The GH Facebook group is a culture shock to the motor industry in the very best way possible! The other thing I particularly love (and it took me quite a while to say I loved anything – BE WARNED when you move any GMS it half kills you!) are the figures and spreadsheets. GH is the dream to me; I love numbers and have always found them beautiful. But for those who don’t, the supported financial app is first class on its presentation of any figure you may want. I have my favourite reports, and regularly look at corners of the business that need/ed attention, these were easily found and are always visually just at your fingertips, anytime and anywhere. Things I love about GH… 1. Proving, not just suspecting, which areas of the business make you money. And yes, there are some surprises! 2. Actioning the changes and then seeing the results. 3. Working from home but feeling like I can see everything. In fact, knowing I can see everything. 4. Seeing progress. So, in balance of fairness … what I don’t like… 1. I’m not that keen on the invoice layout, but probably more indifferent. 2. I wish it was cheaper, but that is not to say I don’t feel that it is not value for money. I met another garage owner a while back and they said that they felt it was like another employee telling the service advisor what needs doing next – I like this analogy and do agree. So, to end, GH has delivered what I wanted, and has facilitated the changes I wanted to achieve. Finally, I want to share one last thing I, personally, have learnt… Turns out, you can communicate in Gifs – who knew?!
We've been using Garage Hive since August 2020. We had outgrew our existing Garage Management system and I wanted more functions like clocking on/off jobs, monitoring efficiencies, electronic checklists, automated notifications etc. What I got was so much more! The functions are so innovative and the information that Garage hive gives about your your business is incredible and obsessive. (No more waiting from one year to the next for the accountant to tell if there had been a profit). The Industry trends are insightful. The system is complex (no management system worthwhile is simple) but the support they offer is unrivaled. And the community that they have brought together is a breath of fresh air. My business is more profitable because of Garage Hive.
Can't begin to explain how Garage Hive has revolutionized our business. All our systems (accounting, stock, bookings and communication) are now all linked in one place. It has transformed our working practices and operating a live system means we are able to react quickly to issues found with clients' vehicles. Most importantly, a very large amount of clients have commented on how they like being kept in the loop regarding their vehicles while in for repair......the customer survey facility is invaluable. The support from the helpdesk staff is second to none, always friendly and efficient. We will never go back to our old systems. Thank you GH :)
The Garage Hive are most definitely that support system I didn't realise I needed so much, always doing so much in the background to keep the software at the forefront of the market, they're also always available within no time via a phone call or a support ticket. Special mention to Leigh, Dawn and Rhys for their efforts with us at WW but I imagine every member of GH are now an imperative part of a lot of businesses for all the best reasons.
I switched over to Garage Hive in 2019, my previous very well known garage management software was slow in operation and the financial reporting was very poor and made little if any sense, the technicians hated the clocking system and I still had two years left on my previous contract when I first came across Garage Hive. Following a meeting with Alex in Nottingham I could see first hand how he uses GH across his 7 branches, the data on show was a game changer for me and I decided to buy out the remainder of my contract, this was a wise decison. End of day for us now means end of day and we know exactly where we are financially. Add to this the brilliant ideas and support through Covid I simply cannot recommend Garage Hive enough, the team are really suppportive, listen to your feedback and implement changes that help the whole GH community. The reporting in Power BI is frst class and contiunally being adjsuted to make it even better. Keep up the good work GH team!
I’ve now been with Garage Hive for almost 3 years. I joined due to many recommendations but was very hesitant due to the initial and ongoing costs. Looking back, I now see this as irrelevant, the system always allows me to see areas of my business that need strengthening. It has me doing more processes which in turn create extra revenue. This benefits everyone within the business, from the office staff to the highest grade technician. I can see ALL my facts and figures dead easily and can monitor day to day, week to week and quickly pinpoint any trends and promote or rectify as necessary before it’s too late.

We moved to Garage Hive a month ago and was the best decision we have made. The system just get's better and better every day. Far more than just a management system! Unrivalled support network going far and beyond the service required to make sure that the system and your experience is a fantastic one. I could not recommend Garage Hive enough. The difference this has made to my business is phenomenal. I now not just know but understand a lot more aspects to the business and can see clearly the performance of the business as a whole on the decisions that are made from day to day. Where do I start, we have just implemented this system to our Garage after looking at many other systems for over 6 months. As a busy independent with a small team, we knew we needed to change the way we ran things as our old system was beyond out of date, and in the short period, we have been using the new system we definitely made the right decision. I could not believe how our team embraced the change immediately. From the moment we went live they just ran with it (this was helped with training videos proved by Alex and the team beforehand), and as owners, the process and structure we desperately needed are just falling into place. We have never felt so organised, the staff are extremely happy, we are now very excited for the future and possibilities are endless . Owned my business for over 35 years, and during that time have tried and used several management software packages. Some we outgrew, some offered the dream but did not live up to their offering, and were slow to respond and in some cases none existent. In November 2018 after reading and travelling to Nottingham to meet with the Garage Hive team and their garage employees to get an overall feel from both sides of the coin we decided to bite the bullet and go with it. I chose Garage Hive as our GMS after hearing the response of many respected garage owners who had switched to it; it was a daunting move as the system appears complicated at first. Within a very short time of using the system, assisted by Dawn and Alex, the feeling of trepidation was soon to be realised as completely unnecessary. The team at Garage Hive hold your hand through every step of the install and beyond into live use; always on the phone and eager to help. Although we have only been live for short of 2 weeks I struggle to see how we managed before with the lack of features that our old system had. I have been on the Garage Hive forum for a couple of months and it seems to get more and more capabilities as each week goes by. The system is updated according to consumer demand and every request is heard and if possible implemented with, quite frankly, an alarming speed, often by the next day. What can I say about Garage Hive except to say excellent with an amazing backup service. I have been in this trade for 35 years and never seen this kind of help and support from a garage management company, not just a garage management support team they hold your hands and let go gradually and keep you up to speed bit by bit.
Making the change to Garage Hive was a massive decision for us. Not only did it enable us to change software, but we streamlined our internal processes and what positive effects we have seen. Since using the system, we have repeatedly increased our sales revenue, actual PB months every month since moving over.
I’ve been in the industry around 15 years working for another garage, in that time we used many garage management systems, they all did a job, but we wanted more from the system. In 2018 I decided to go out on my own and set up my own garage. I wasn't 100% happy with the other systems that I have used in the past, so I started looking elsewhere. I think if I had started my business without Garage Hive, I would be lost. With other systems I’ve used I could control the work, but that was it, really. I know hour by hour exactly what’s going on in my business, from profit and loss, technician monitoring, parts control and the big one for me is the reporting the system does, I can tell with a click of a button everything I need to know and my business. Best decision I ever made, and it gets better EVERY DAY. I find it hard to believe. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Alex Lindley for taking the time to bring me on board – he had his work cut out I’m sure he had nightmares about my name appearing in his inbox or WhatsApp for months after. I asked the inner workings of everything, but fair play to Alex, and despite numerous times having to get clarification from the development team, every question was answered and answered well. Everything I asked, if it didn’t do it, then it was on the list and does do it now. After having Garage Hive for seven months now, I could never use anything else on the market – the wealth of information available is incredible. Once set up the information is collated automatically by simply doing your invoicing and the tech clocking on and off their jobs – the important thing is there is no human input relied on the make the information work.
A fantastic system which just gets better and better. A support team willing to listen and act and a community willing to help. The improvements it's making already within our business is already allowing us to reap the rewards right from the start. Best garage management software we have ever used, the support is unbelievable even the techs like using tablets and seeing the efficiencies.
After using another system for quite some time and becoming progressively more frustrated at the lack of support and speed of change, we decided to move to Garage Hive. The speed of development, the support and the reporting are second to none. The system is fantastic to use, it has a proper working schedule and is flexible enough to do exactly what you need to do with it. Couldn't recommend it more if I tried.
